Michigan State University’s College of Nursing’s Accelerated Second-Degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program plays a crucial role in helping to address the national nurse shortage by graduating exceptional Spartan nurses into the workforce.

The ABSN program provides an opportunity for students who have earned their bachelor’s degree in another field to earn their BSN in only 16 months at either MSU College of Nursing’s East Lansing or Detroit locations, making them invaluable in expanding access to quality patient care.

Since ABSN students are second-degree, they are not eligible for Pell Grants, and they do not usually have access to the federal direct loans that are offered at the lower interest rates. These loans have lifetime caps that most students reach during their first bachelor's degree. Scholarships are one of the only ways for ABSN students to ease the financial burden of pursuing their dream of becoming a nurse.

College of Nursing supporters Lori and Jerry Kulczycki have committed the very first-ever donation to the newly established ABSN Scholarship Fund!

“This scholarship holds deep personal meaning.  I pursued my nursing degree at MSU with limited financial support of my parents. I worked part-time while participating in the MSU Nursing program. Now in a position to give back, I hope this scholarship eases the financial burdens facing current students. I want future nursing students to have the freedom to focus fully on their studies and clinical experiences, without having to choose between work and learning. - Lori Kulczycki

Support ASBN students’ scholarship opportunities, so that in 16 months they will be prepared to contribute to their communities and provide transformational healthcare as Spartan nurses.
