High Impact Learning: Undergraduate Learning Assistants

At Lyman Briggs College, we are committed to high-impact learning—experiences that actively engage students, foster deep connections, and prepare them for success both in the classroom and in life. Programs like the Undergraduate Learning Assistant (ULA) Program provide an immersive, hands-on approach to learning that extends far beyond textbooks and lectures.

At Briggs, students supporting each other’s learning is at the heart of the academic experience. Every semester, over 120 ULAs play a central role in shaping our learning community. They assist faculty in lectures, run lab sessions, lead recitations, as well as support group work.

This Give Green Day, we invite you to invest in these exceptional student leaders and help strengthen the future of peer-led learning.

Why Support ULAs?

ULAs aren’t just teaching assistants—they’re mentors, problem solvers, and role models who help students gain confidence in their STEM knowledge. Through their work, ULAs combat feelings of isolation, support classmates who may be hesitant to approach professors directly and provide essential guidance to help students succeed.

The Impact of Your Gift

A gift of $1,500 supports one Undergraduate Learning Assistant for an entire semester. Funding this program helps:

  • Support additional training opportunities and resources to help ULAs lead more effectively.
  • Provide stipends for ULAs who dedicate their time to helping others, expanding the impact on students.
  • Ensure continued access to peer-led learning opportunities that benefit every student in the Lyman Briggs community.

“This program has changed my undergrad experience and has provided me with a large network that I am so grateful for. Getting to know the professors and students has been such a wonderful experience for me! This opportunity has allowed me to grow in my public speaking and reasoning skills and has allowed me to fill such a meaningful leadership position. This program is easily one of the most memorable and meaningful parts of my undergrad experience at MSU.″— ULA
